About Me

Well hello there! I’m Ann, and this is my husband Reid who is my reluctant partner in DIY crime. For over the past year I have been sharing my DIY craft and design adventures on my blog, The Domestic Domicile.  While I'm usually the motivating force behind all the projects on the blog, the hubbs often tags along is coerced into participating so you may see him around here from time to time!

My husband and I both grew up in a small town in northern Minnesota and recently took the giant leap to move to the Minneapolis Metropolitan area.  We are country people at heart, but are leaning to enjoy city life. I started writing my blog from my 2 bedroom 1 bath townhouse in the city area.  The hubby and I recently began our adventure as home owners and purchased our first house (take the tour here)!  Owning a house has been our dream, like forever, so we are ecstatic to say the least! We are in the process of making our house feel like an actual home through the décor, food, laughter, and love. I am inspired by all things that make a house a home and want to share that passion with you!

I decided on the name Domestic Domicile because I felt it encompassed everything I was trying to accomplish in my  home.  I felt that the word domestic reflected all of the activities in the house (cooking, decorating, nesting, crafting, etc.) while the domicile was where all the action happened aka the house itself.  Some people scratch their heads when I roll out this lengthy explination, but hey, it's my blog and I can name it what I want.  Besides, it has a nice little ring to it!

I would describe my design style as vintage-modern-casual county and I love pairing vintage and found accessories and furniture with updated and modern pieces to create truly eclectic rooms that look lived in and loved.  I am a complete novice when it comes to design, décor, and DIY and I am learning a lot along the way.  I hope that the wisdom and insight I gain from my mistakes, screw ups, and shenanigans can help you along your journey, or at least give you a good laugh.
